Carlo van de Weijer

Hi-tech Specialist, Singularity University

 

 

After getting his Master degree as a Mechanical Engineer at the University of Technology in Eindhoven, Carlo van de Weijer (1966) started in 1990 at TNO Automotive in Delft, where he amongst others was responsible for setting up a new research field in Electrical and Hybrid drive trains and, from 1998, was responsible for the Business Unit Power Trains (100FTE). In 1997 he received his PhD with honors from Technical University in Graz, Austria.

In 2001 he moved to SiemensVDO in Eindhoven to head the local R&D lab for automotive navigation systems (250FTE). In 2007 he joined TomTom to become Vice President Traffic Solutions. Currently, Dr. Van de Weijer is director of the Strategic Area Smart Mobility at Eindhoven University of Technology, alongside his work for TomTom. He advises ministries and industry around the world on the future of mobility and is member of the supervisory board of several high-tech companies and start-ups. He is an international speaker on exponential technology and the future of high-tech, amongst others as faculty member of Silicon Valley based Singularity University and lecturer at GIBS Business school in Johannesburg.
